Court Mediation Services

Jackson County Circuit Court supports and believes in mediations as an effective alterative for resolving conflicts. Whenever a small claims case is filed and the other party responds to the summons, the case is scheduled for mediation before going to trial. In addition, when a property owner applies to the courts for eviction of a tenant (FED), the landlord and tenant have an opportunity to meet with a mediator immediately following the first appearance in court to see if the issues can be resolved in mediation, therefore alleviating the need for parties to pay additional fees and return to court for a trial at a later date.
 
Satisfaction with the mediation process is 90% higher than those using the litigation alternative. The compliance rate for mediated agreements in a court situation is about 80%.
 
For those who have filed a court action there is no fee for mediation. For those who have not filed a court action, there is a small fee. For more information visit the Jackson County Circtuit Court website.
