 School Programs Training Opportunities

Fall 2011
Location: TBA
ChoicePoint: A Bystander Awareness Facilitator Training

This day-long training will give volunteers the knowledge base and the hands-on experiential training to be able to go into elementary and middle schools and teach students to be effective bystanders. We use a male and female co-facilitator model.

What the research shows is that when bullying incidents happen, targets, aggressors and even bystanders are often unaware that their peers are uncomfortable with the bullying. So, a main goal of our Bystander Awareness Training is to empower bystanders by giving them safe and effective tools that move them from passive bystander to active ally.

All participants must have taken either Fundamentals in Mediation Training or the Conflict Resolution Training prior to pre-registering for this training.  Any exceptions must be pre-approved by the Trainer. Pre-registration is required.

This training includes:
  • Learning the dynamics of bullying, social bullying and cyberbullying
  • Understanding of who gets targeted and how it plays out for both genders
  • Examining the continuum of choices that students have when confronted with bullying situations
