Restorative Justice Training Opportunities
RESTORATIVE JUSTICE: VAYA VOLUNTEER TRAINING
Fri.-Sat., October 1-2 and Fri.-Sat., October 8-9 , 2010
8:30 am -- 4:30 pm each day
Location: Medford, OR
The purpose of the Victim Assistance, Youth Accountability Program (VAYA) is two-fold: (1) to encourage youth offenders to become aware of and address the harms caused by their actions against themselves, their community, and their victims; and (2) support victims of youthful criminal behavior. Our hope is that VAYA, guided by restorative justice values, will work with the youth in addressing these harms through a six day curriculum, structured support, and, when appropriate, a dialogue between themselves and their victims.
Participation in this training is required for all prospective VAYA volunteers. Participants will affirm and learn:
-
Basic restorative justice principles
-
Skills for working with adolescents
-
Juvenile Justice Department procedures
-
Jackson County Youth Services orientation
-
Restorative discipline
-
How to conduct victim and offender case development
